چکیده

This paper studies the basic question of whether a given channel V can be dominated (in the precise sense of being more noisy) by a q-ary symmetric channel. The concept of “less noisy” relation between channels originated in network information theory (broadcast channels) and is defined in terms of mutual information or Kullback-Leibler divergence. We give equivalent characterizations in terms of χ-divergence, Löwner (PSD) partial order, and spectral radius. Furthermore, we develop a simple criterion for domination by a symmetric channel in terms of the minimum entry of the stochastic matrix defining the channel V . The criterion is strengthened for the special case of additive noise channels. Finally, it is shown that domination by a symmetric channel implies (via comparison of Dirichlet forms) a logarithmic Sobolev inequality for the original channel.

Polarization of Multi-Relay Channels: A Suitable Method for DF and CF Relaying with Orthogonal Receiver

Polar codes, that have been recently introduced by Arikan, are one of the first codes that achieved the capacity for vast numerous channels and they also have low complexity in symmetric memoryless channels. Polar codes are constructed based on a phenomenon called channel polarization. This paper discusses relay channel polarization in order to achieve the capacity and show that if inputs of tw...

Comparison of Three Soft Computing Methods in Estimating Apparent Shear Stress in Compound Channels

Apparent shear stress acting on a vertical interface between the main channel and floodplain in a compound channel serves to quantify the momentum transfer between sub sections of this cross section. In this study, three soft computing methods are used to simulate apparent shear stress in prismatic compound channels. The Genetic Algorithm Artificial neural network (GAA), Genetic Programming (GP...

Predicting Shear Stress Distribution in Rectangular Channels Using Entropy Concept

This study makes use of the Tsallis entropy to predict the shear stress distribution. Given a definition of the Tsallis entropy, it is maximized by using the probability density function, which then is used to attain a novel shear stress equation. This is then employed for calculating the shear stress distribution in rectangular channels in different aspect ratios and finally, for viability, th...

Determination of seepage loss in earthen channels supplied by Hamoon channel in Dorodzan irrigation and drainage network.

Irrigation channels, which are parts of rainwater catchment systems, have been used for water supply in agriculture for a long time. Seepage loss in irrigation channels is one of the farmers' concerns. Seepage loss, especially in earthen channels, can be noticeable. Different equations have been developed to estimate seepage loss amount in irrigation channels. However, the accuracy of the equat...
